Australia’s only Opera Festival was launched by Gertrude Opera in the Yarra Valley in 2018 and is set to be embraced as a premier arts and cultural event on the international stage.
For our auspicious second year, we have launched an enticing program of festival opera, showcasing an abundance of elite professional talent, imagination and skill - onstage and offstage. Our festival offers so much more than the opera, but at its core is all about the opera: excellent, appealing, inspiring, and abundant.
Up close and personal - little separation and between the audience, the performers and musicians
A club atmosphere – much more than sitting in a seat - able to meet others, enjoy a platter, experience the environment, a new way to enjoy the performance
See the old in a new way - festival opera opens a whole new toy box with licence to provoke and play
Combination of arts, food, wine and travel – day-trip, weekend or a week
Accessible & Present – opera sung in English, no focus on subtitles, all eyes on what is happening on the stage.
Opera on a platter – eclectic mix of styles from an array of elite and emerging singers, allowing surprise, taste, and breaking of conventions
Hosted in an elegant, large pop-up theatre, in a paddock - set amongst the iconic landscape of the Yarra Valley
Transport options - we’ve made it easy to drive, bus (from Fed Square, train and/or cycle)
