🐉 The story behind GNOSIS (Little Dragon)

Every track carries a story.

GNOSIS (Little Dragon) was born during the Goa monsoon - late nights of rain outside, experimenting with distortion, rhythm, and texture inside. The song moved through many moods: lonely piano lines, heavy bass, chaotic beats, choirs that seem to both mourn and lift.

Last monsoon I could sense that major changes were on the way, as well as a necessary change of my own mindset. And here we are, a little over a year later - I'm in Singapore, heading back to Thailand shortly - probably not based in Goa so much anymore.

Releasing it this month in Singapore feels like coming full circle. This is the place where my music journey truly began, nurtured by my late mum’s creativity and encouragement. Without her, I wouldn’t be an artist today. In a way, this track is a quiet homage to her - and to the idea of finding wisdom through life’s storms.

The title GNOSIS means “spiritual knowledge, awakening, transcendence.” The “Little Dragon” nods back to its earliest form in the studio - a humble, universe-exploring creature who learns as he travels. Both names belong to the track, because both belong to the journey.

It’s a piece about learning through chaos, finding insight in solitude, and letting the small, persistent dragon within us grow wiser.

Release Day! The debut ANIMISM EP, GOSSE, is out to the world today (February 14, 2025), released with love.

GOSSE is an extended sonic adventure, bridging experimental, downtempo, IDM and broken beats. Several unusual instruments were pushed in different ways, and more and more grooves came from creative sessions.

Like Teenage Fugue, it was written and produced in the malaise of an impromptu mid-winter trip to Nepal. On my final day, I spent the afternoon with global producer, OMMOOD - who unwittingly inspired the breaks, beats and direction.

I was bored with the same old thing, and down a little about life in general. I pushed myself to engage in some music time, and - piece by piece - this record came about.

Thanks to the early supporters of ANIMISM, in this rest-of-life journey. It's still very young along the way.

A request from GASHE's founder, a.k.a. ANIMISM (ANIMISM)

"Can you kindly follow on Instagram? I'm extraordinarily motivated to begin substantially growing the ANIMISM name and spreading its reach. I'm struggling with getting those basic preliminary followers up to scratch, before I'm able to properly approach various venues, playlists, booking agents, etc. Can you help?

ANIMISM is a rest-of-life artistic project for me, that I've been practicing and trialing for around 4 years. I have 4-6 releases scheduled over the rest of 2023, a full first album and musical film across 2024, live shows and even overseas tours on tap.

Along the way I'm testing out next-gen technological solutions, like an Artist DAO, open source methods of self-funding art project (to share the findings with everybody), and already you've seen examples of using generative AI to assist with music videos and artwork.

If this at all sounds interesting to you, please do follow along - on Instagram and your choice of streaming platform/s. I also have a Telegram group/channel (animismworld / animismlive respectively), and am updating on 1% daily improvements, and each new milestone that comes along the way. This is also being written into the sequel to Plan Sea: my next travelogue / life journey book.

The new single, ANIMISM - C.O.P.N.E. is officially launched, and here is the full generative AI music video. The song and the story are extended journeys, through a world of dreams and perseverance.

ANIMISM is a Goa-based multi-instrumentalist and music/festival producer, and COPNE is a tribute to his musical heritage, with the initial sketches of the piece first etched in 2005.

One month from today marks 30 years since the life-affirming spark of inspiration; the long journey was underway, sidetracked by survival, experience, and adventure. And here we are, now in time.

This coming piece was first sketched out in 2005, as "Consensus of Parts, Not Entities". In recent months, it resurfaced, and rebirthed, embellishing through multiple layers of hope and optimism.

May the quantum possibilities of the universe, help guide towards remaining dreams come true. The path is underway. Enjoy the journey.
