🎭 Meet the artists bringing Aida to life!

We are thrilled to welcome Panamanian-American baritone Nmon Ford to the Toledo Opera stage as Amonasro, Aida’s father, in Verdi’s monumental masterpiece, Aida!

Nmon Ford has built an acclaimed career taking on some of opera’s most demanding and dramatic repertoire. His recent engagements include Le Spectre in Thomas’ Hamlet with Cincinnati Symphony, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Cincinnati Opera and Detroit Opera, Jesus in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Atlanta Symphony, and Haydn’s Creation with the Fort Worth Symphony.

Mr. Ford has appeared on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, the Metropolitan Opera, English National Opera, Salzburg’s Grosses Festspielhaus, and Hamburg State Opera. His international career has also included performances at Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, and the Szeged Opern-Air Festival in Hungary.

His repertoire includes powerful roles such as Iago in Otello, Jochanaan in Salome, Crown in Porgy and Bess, Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Don Giovanni, Escamillo in Carmen, and the title role in The Emperor Jones—a performance that earned him the Premio Franco Corelli for outstanding debut of the season.

Nmon Ford is also entering an exciting new artistic chapter as the composer, librettist, and title-role performer of House of Orfeus, which will be presented by Lincoln Center in an upcoming season.

We can’t wait for you to experience Nmon Ford’s commanding artistry as he brings Amonasro to life in Aida this October!

🎤 Where are you from?
"I am originally from Parma Heights, just outside of Cleveland. Every year for Fat Tuesday, people wake up insanely early to form lines outside of Rudy's, our local bakery, to get their hands on delicious Pączki (filled Polish donuts) - only sold that time of year."

🏙️ What are you most excited to experience in Toledo?
" While in Toledo, I am looking forward to discovering the "hidden gems" of the city (parks, restaurants, entertainment). "In high school and my first semester of college, I marched tenor drums with the marching band."

We're thrilled to have Charles join the Toledo Opera family this season. Be sure to welcome him in the comments, and don't miss the chance to see him onstage and throughout the community during the 2026–2027 season! 💙
