Summerstock Toledo is a non-profit, student-run, community theatre organization. We are committed to offering opportunities to high school students throughout the greater Toledo area. Our students not only perform onstage, but also run the business and technical aspects of the show. It is our belief that allowing students with a love of theatre to come together to work towards a common goal create
s a sense of community among the local high schools and Northwest Ohio theatergoers alike. In allowing students to not only act, sing, and dance, but also to direct, fundraise, advertise, design, build, and cooperate, we enable all those involved to build practical life skills such as leadership, initiative, networking, teamwork, and innovation. History of Summerstock
In the spring of 2010, several students from assorted high schools began a serious dialogue about producing their own, full-length musical. An inaugural meeting was held before school in KC Kenney's chemistry lab and thus the original organization, SUA Summerstock, was conceived. That summer, SUA Summerstock, led by a production team of students from various schools, and with a similarly assorted cast of 9, produced “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. The performance took place in the old SUA gymnasium and, despite the heavy heat of summer which plagued every performance, friends, family and community members showed up to support Summerstock’s first effort. Two of the three shows were sold out and enthusiastic feedback from audience members was plentiful. Needless to say, the summer was a success in countless ways. In the months that followed, planning and rearranging took place to ensure that Summerstock could continue its mission. The original title of SUA Summerstock became Summerstock Toledo to indicate association with students throughout the greater Toledo area, not solely SUA. In the years that followed, Summerstock has continued its tradition of excellence, producing small cast, scarcely done, and family-friendly shows. Students from Central Catholic, St. Johns, St. Francis, Notre Dame, Perrysburg, Ottawa Hills, Anthony Wayne, Toledo School for the Arts, Interlochen Academy, Maumee Valley Country Day School, Sylvania Northview and Southview have been involved in both the production staff and casts of these various productions. Who are Summerstockers? Once a Summerstocker, always a Summerstocker. To be involved in the cast or production team, one must be between the grades of an incoming high school sophomore through an outgoing high school senior. If you are interested in supporting or getting involved with Summerstock Toledo in any way, we'd love to have you on the team!
