This week’s WAM Spotlight is Mel ✨A musician, songwriter, and emerging audio engineer, Mel’s journey started with cello and voice, spanning orchestras, choirs, and even a mariachi band, before evolving into producing and live sound.

Now completing their Music and Audio Tech certificate at Riverside City College this spring, Mel is building hands-on experience everywhere from EDM festival Ground Control to stagehand and audio tech work with HeyDay Events in SoCal.

They’re currently recording their own music and diving deep into mixing and production and always chasing the next thing to learn, create, and explore in audio. 🎧

Join us on June 18 for our very first WAM Member Event in Los Angeles: an open house-style Lab Day designed for hands-on creativity, experimentation, and community.

From synths and microphones to interfaces, mixing consoles, and our soldering station, the studio will be open for you to explore audio gear in a low-pressure, collaborative environment alongside fellow women and gender-expansive creators. Whether you’re deep into audio production or just getting started, this is your space to learn, ask questions, try things out, and meet people who share your passion for sound 🎧

From game audio education to recording history and community fundraising, a lot is happening at WAM! 💜

Huge thanks to Elise Baldwin for leading our Intro to Game Audio Production Masterclass and sharing her expertise on interactive audio and careers in game sound.

Our Board Chair Maggie and her sister Eliza are gearing up for their tandem ride around Lake Tahoe this Sunday! 🚲 They're 78% of the way to their fundraising goal, with proceeds benefiting Women’s Audio Mission and Guide Dogs of Texas.

In LA, WAM Program Manager Bri toured the newly restored Les Paul Recording Studio at United Recording, home to Les Paul's original recording equipment, including "The Monster" console and "The Octopus" 8-track recorder. We're excited to bring WAM interns for a visit later this summer.

After enrolling in WAM Academy and completing the WAM Internship, Sammie built hands-on experience in the studio, worked on real sessions, sharpened her technical skills, and began freelancing in the industry. Today, Sammie is the Studio Manager at WAM Studios SF, helping artists and engineers bring their creative visions to life every day. 💫

Meet this week’s WAM Spotlight: Lizzie ✨ From picking up guitar at 10 years old to pursuing a career in sound effects editing for animation, Lizzie’s journey through audio has been fueled by creativity, curiosity, and community.

A musician, post-sound engineer, and WAM Intern II, Lizzie discovered her love for Film/TV sound design while studying Music Industry at USC. Since joining WAM in Fall 2025, she’s found not only creative growth, but a supportive network that helped her navigate life after graduation and step confidently into the industry.

Now, she’s giving that same support back & helping uplift the next generation of audio engineers while continuing her own music and sound design projects. 🎧💫
