Beats for Lunch

Beats for Lunch Lunchtime Dance Party! The local vanguards of Tech Bubble 2.0 are tethered to ergonomic workstations in a kinder, gentler version of Apple's “1984” ad.

WHY: SoMa's Twitter/Zynga/Facebook era pushes a bleeding-edge movement of bits, bytes and tweets but stifles the physical movement of its hardworking purveyors. Catered meals are consumed at desks, spouses and children corralled into onsite lifepods and programmers' muscles atrophy below the waist as their monitors and business briefs get bigger and bulkier. Clearly, these poor enslaved automatons need some Beats for Lunch. WHAT: BEATS FOR LUNCH (fka RECESS), the new midday dance party brought to you by the merry pranksters at SunsetSF (Sea of Dreams, Silent Frisco, SF Funk Fest), aims squarely at the lethargic routines of round-bellied office workers and delirious dot-commers, prompting them to get ready to get sweaty...during the lunch hour. WHERE: BFL eschews treadmills in favor of tech house and lunch meetings in favor of DJ-dancefloor freedom at new club on the block, Monarch (Mission @ 6th St), CMAC's 2012 Best Small Club winner, which boasts the Void sound system recently rated best in the city by SF Weekly. HOW: BFL follows the lead of Swedish forebearer, Lunchbeat, which places the urgency of movement and freedom from the workplace as top provisions for its dedicated dancers. WHEN: BEATS FOR LUNCH takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 12-2pm. WHO: Resident DJ MATT HAZE and guests provide the beats. DANCING IS MANDATORY. YOU MUST DANCE FOR YOUR LUNCH!
