Huge thanks to Ritual Control for shining a light on our upcoming release "Crash Reborn." This project is close to my heart— Wayne Static and I poured our souls into "Crash" with the amazing contribution of Koichi Fukuda on guitar back in 2000, but it never quite hit the mark we envisioned. Now, 25 years later, we’re bringing it back the way we always wanted: raw, real, and true to Mephisto Odyssey and Static-X (thank you Brad Gillis for your contribution to the Falling Star remix). The 4K re-edits and remixed tracks are for Wayne’s legacy and our fans who’ve stuck with us. Grateful for the support—stay tuned for more in 2025. -X

News: Mephisto Odyssey unearths long lost collaboration with Wayne Static, song and video to be released later in 2025

🎧 This one’s for Wayne, and for us. 25 years ago, Wayne Static (Static-X) and I (Mikael Johnston of Mephisto Odyssey) wrote “Crash”—a track we loved, but sadly the world got a version that didn’t reflect our vision, or that of our friend and Static-X guitarist Koichi Fukuda. The original video edit was buried in cartoon footage and bad CGI, which was created solely to promote Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. While we love Batman Beyond and were honored to be a part of that film, the video was missing the soul of Static-X and Mephisto Odyssey. Had the producers and editors of the video not had tunnel vision and created a video edit that serviced the song first it would have yielded better results both as a music video and promotional tool for Batman Beyond; Return of The Joker.

Now, “Crash Reborn” is here—with a teaser for the new version of the song and Len Wiseman video we dreamed of, remixed with inspiration taken from our old demos, mastered right by Maor Appelbaum, re-cut in 4K (with help from director William R. Instone) and featuring additional guitar & production work by legendary guitarist Brad Gillis. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s Wayne’s legacy shining bright alongside Mephisto Odyssey. I’m going to be working on a feature film with my friend and director William R. Instone next year. I’ll be doing scoring, post production and possibly part of the onset sound crew.
