Swineshead Productions, LLC "Golden ears" Dolby Atmos wiz!! GRAMMY- and JUNO-nominated recording engineer/producer. Global Music Awards and Fluxx Awards winner. Mr.

Recording producer and engineer David v.R. Bowles formed Swineshead Productions, LLC in 1995 as a classical recording production company specializing in high-resolution stereo and immersive recording. His productions have been nominated for GRAMMY and JUNO awards; many have received critical acclaim for his audio engineering in particular. Bowles is a guest lecturer in 3D audio production for Tonmeister programmes at NYU Steinhardt Music Technologies, and at the Royal Danish Academy. Recent accolades:

Handel - Saul (Philharmonia Baroque Productions, recorded live):
Jason Victor Serinus , San Francisco Classical Voice: "The recording was superbly produced, recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered by PBO’s former recording engineer, David v.R. Bowles of Swineshead Productions, LLC...Auditioned in 24/192 high-resolution, Bowles's achievement captures all the nuance and color that were transmitted by First Congregational’s uniquely live, resonant, and spacious acoustic..." Handel - Arias with Avery Amereau (Philharmonia Baroque Productions)
"Editor's Choice, September 2020", Gramophone Magazine
Andrew Sammut, Early Music America: "...the recorded sound lets the listener enjoy the interplay of Handel’s writing, savor instruments doubling the voice, or zero in on an instrumental line inside the mix"

Robert and Clara Schumann lieder (Avie Records):
Hugo Shirley, Gramophone Magazine: "With fresh, engaging accounts of Robert [Schumann’s] two cycles...as well as impeccable engineering, there’s a great deal to be enjoyed in this release." Mason Bates - Mass Transmission (Delos Records):
"Critic’s Choice, December 2019", Opera News
Andrew Newsome, Voix des Artes: "A critically important voice in the chorus of artists whose contributions fostered the success of Mass Transmission is that of recording engineer David v.R. Bowles...True to his reputation, Bowles achieves this spectacularly on Mass Transmission." Poldowski (Irène Régine Wieniawska) – Art Songs (Delos Records):
Henry Vogel, Fanfare Magazine: “…the recorded sound is well-balanced and warm.”

I had a wonderful time sharing my 3D recording of Bach's Matthew passion for Audio Engineering Society - San Francisco Section at Dolby headquarters in San Francisco! To demonstrate their Meyer Sound Constellation system, San Francisco Girls Chorus performed a short piece, bringing the audience into a different world!

San Francisco-based colleagues: please attend my Audio Engineering Society - San Francisco Section presentation (August 24, 5:30-8pm) at the Dolby Theatre at their headquarters on 1275 Market Street. Not only will you get to listen to Part 1 of Bach's Matthew passion, but you will experience this in 3D Dolby Atmos audio. I mixed the project at their studios upstairs, and am excited to share this with everyone!

With the musicians and choristers of Cantata Collective and the San Francisco Girls Chorus

Many thanks to Margi Griebling-Haigh for hiring me to produce and engineer two projects (to be released on PARMA Recordings in 2027). One CD will feature her works for violin and piano, three violins, and a violin, viola, and cello trio as performed by Peter Otto, Eric Charnofsky, Katherine C Bormann, Win Lee, William Bender, and William Brian Thornton.

The other CD will be comprised of vocal chamber music in English and German as performed by Gabrielle Haigh, soprano, Edward Vogel, Eric Charnofsky, Peter Otto, Jeff Singler, Robert Woolfrey, and Richard King. During a spare evening, I recorded several tracks with Khari Joyner and Dianna White-Gould - to be continued!! These were recorded immersively as well; the acoustics of Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio are excellent!

Very nice to wake up to this morning: "the rich, well-balanced sound of Cantata Collective’s choral and orchestral forces...this Passion’s engineering serves Bach’s writing and the performers’ well..." (Andrew J. Sammut, Early Music America, May 2026)

New recordings of Bach's 'Saint Matthew Passion' continue to come at us apace. The latest, from the Bay Area's Cantata Collective, is highlighted by stellar vocal soloists and by Nicholas McGegan's emotionally subtle conducting.

A late-season rainstorm, an evening recording organist Mark Winges performing his compositions (plus some Vierne - why not??). Fortunately St. Ignatius Church has such thick walls that there was no problem with the noise outside. The organ blower is another matter...
