Thinking about our fabulous evening with Rough Trade Records 💫

The counter-cultural publishing house, Rough Trade Books, presented an evening of eclectic authors, artists and musicians, including Jarvis Cocker, Sheena Patel, Musa Okwonga and many more.

Hosted brilliantly by our very own Lily Blacksell, the energy in the room was unmatched! Where else but the Southbank Centre would you find such an exciting combination of literature, music and art?

Did you get it right? Wait till the end to see which piece pianist Tiffany P**n is performing a section from...

The piece sums up the Baroque mastery in its technicality and emotion. It remains a musical treasure, celebrated among pianists and theorists alike, thanks to its complex melodic lines and sophisticated harmonic progressions 👏

ANSWER: Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude and Fugue No.2 in C minor 🎹

Tiffany P**n takes to the Queen Elizabeth Hall stage in her much anticipated London Debut on Sun 26 May, presenting a programme of Schumann, Ravel, Bach and Chopin, concluding with Chopin’s intricate 24 Preludes.

Pop culture icon and international drag superstar RuPaul () blessed us with his presence last week in the Royal Festival Hall!

Happy 70th birthday to the marvellous Royal Festival Hall organ!

Here are some fun facts to celebrate...

💡 The organ boasts 7,866 pipes which range in length from being smaller than a baby’s little finger to a spectacular 32 feet

💡 On this day in 1954, the organ was officially opened with a giant programme with the London Philharmonic Orchestra

💡 The organ was constructed between 1950 - 1954 to the specifications of our first Organ Curator Ralph Downes (pic 3!). The design had both Italian and Scandinavian influences.

Happy World Poetry Day! To celebrate, enjoy this reading from Carol Ann Duffy from 2014.

This was a landmark year for British poetry as it was the first time in history that all five poet laureates, or equivalent roles, across the UK and Republic of Ireland were women.

Carol Ann Duffy reads poems including:
✏️ Head of English
✏️ The Counties
✏️ Virgil’s Bees
✏️ Liverpool
