Sung Gyun Park, professionally known as Khan, started tattooing 1st of June, 2001 in Tokyo Japan. and left his country 1998 to go to Japan. He initially went to Tokyo to be an architect, but since the first time he saw the Japanese traditional tattoo , he fell in love with it, and started tattooing himself. It took 2years to make such a monumental decision, because he had already studied for a lon

g time to be an architect. However, the art of tattooing called to him as he described it as the most AMAZING ART he had ever seen. On the 1st of June, 2001 in Tokyo Japan, Khan bought his first tattoo machine and I did his first tattoo on his own left forearm using only basic knowledge. He was surprisingly pleased that his first tattoo came out as well as it did, and knew he had a chance at succeeding along this new career path. After that, Khan practiced tattooing by working on his whole body, even on his right side which would require him to use his less-dominant left hand. He bought a small studio in Tokyo Japan and says his teacher was his body.



20 years later, Khan has found his signature style of realism tattooing after a career of great success. His clients come to him specifically for his unique style of color realism and every tattoo is personalized for each client’s own story. Khan enjoys tattooing while learning from his customers, and a little about their lives in the process. Where they come from, what they like, and no matter what style of tattoo I’m doing, he enjoys it to the fullest. Khan is inspired by so many artists, his client’s ideas, his friend’s ideas, people who he’s met during his travels and even people who he has seen in passing; everything influences his work. Khan’s goal is for the tattoo to change each client in a positive way. I try to believe that.

“Because I do realize that tattoo over the responsibility and the weight of what I’m doing, they’re changing people’s lives. This is my favorite moment in my career. In my opinion a tattoo artist never stops learning…the key is to stay humble and always hungry to learn new techniques and find inspiration to do better tattoos , being around more tattoo artists and new places is great to keep that hunger alive, to me it seems to never stop, all I can do is do what I love and do best….tattooing….”
