“[Weinberg’s music is] deeply sincere and emotionally charged, exceptionally inventive and full of strong human emotions” says Marc Danel, founding first violinist of the .

The quartet has extensively performed and recorded the music of Mieczysław Weinberg, the mid-20th Century Polish composer who emigrated to the Soviet Union after his family perished in the Holocaust and became a close friend and colleague of Shostakovich. This excerpt from the beginning of the Lento of Weinberg’s Quartet No. 16 in A-flat, dedicated to his sister, was recorded with at The Town Hall in 2023.

The quartet returns to PSC to open our 2026-27 season and the Mann Series on Saturday, October 17 with Weinberg’s Second quartet, Shostakovich’s Eighth, and Beethoven Op. 59, No. 1 at the High School of Fashion Industries.
