Platform’s Made in Easterhouse festival takes place this Friday (October 23rd) from 4-10pm, celebrating 20 years of Platform and the creativity of Easterhouse.

WIT’S THE RUG: an open mic

Our first open mic night will take place on Sunday the 8th of November at the Under the Rug Hub 🎉

Wit’s the Rug is a low-pressure development evening for anyone & everyone developing new work who would benefit from presenting a short sharing in front of a supportive audience. Comics, dancers, poets, musicians, writers - all are welcome!

Wether you have a 5-minute script, a 2-minute song, 10 minutes of stand-up, or a 20 minute play in progress, this is an opportunity to test out your ideas AND see what’s currently brewing in Glasgows creative scene at a low cost before it hits the big stages!

The event is Pay-What-You-Can for audiences.

Next week: Brushin’ Up, captor & director skills development workshops.

We’re excited to be holding our first Brushin’ Up workshop which is tailored for actors & directors looking to collaborate on modern and classic texts.

Designed as a low-pressure, hands-on environment, each fortnightly session pairs participants up to explore unfamiliar play excerpts, helping actors refine audition techniques and build showreel material while allowing directors to practice quick-turnaround staging across different plays and settings.

Beyond developing craft and confidence, these sessions offer a supportive space to connect with fellow creatives and build lasting industry relationships.

On a cold night in Glasgow, creatives from across the city gathered at The Savings Bank to warmly welcome the new Under the Rug as we launched our free community & arts magazine – The Rug.

The (re)Launch event wasn’t just about introducing our magazine – it was the beginning of a promise we’re making to Glasgow. A promise that we will continue supporting our local communities & creatives by building a new sustainable way for us to connect, collaborate, and tell our stories.

The night featured an incredible lineup of music, performance, talks, and games, all hosted by the brilliant Mahri Reilly – someone we’ve been lucky to know since 2021 and genuinely wouldn’t have made it this far without. We were treated to drag from 𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐆𝐎 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑, live music from Marianne McGregor, a raffle, and a valiant attempt at bingo – though anyone there will know that while our creative talents are many, designing a functioning bingo card isn’t one of them!

A new artist-led co-operative is shaking up Scotland’s performing arts scene, uniting actors, writers, and directors to challenge traditional industry gatekeeping.

For many artists starting out in the Scottish theatre, film, and television industries, the traditional career path can feel lonely and bleak. The conventional model – often hierarchical and distant from the daily grind of making work – doesn’t always serve the realities of working-class or regional talent.

That’s where Ignis Artists Agency comes in, a new artist-led co-operative aiming to flip that script entirely.
