Birds of Paradise Theatre Company Scotland's disability-led theatre company, putting the stories of disabled people on stage. Our work exists in part to challenge and address these.

that place disabled artists centre stage and to develop future generations of disabled artists. BOP believes that disabled people continue to experience a lack of equality and considerable barriers within society, including the arts. We are the only professional, disability-led theatre company in Scotland and we exist to:

- make world-class, innovative and accessible work that embeds Creative Access and is made by disabled and non-disabled artists, writers and theatre-makers drawn from diverse cultures to reach a wide demographic nationally and internationally

- play a key strategic role in Scotland’s theatre ecology and wider arts industry by supporting the sector to nurture the next generation of disabled artists, performers and audiences through addressing barriers to opportunities and involving disabled people in these processes

The winners of our Mary Dick Award 2026 are in the last few days of fundraising for their show You and Me (and Whoever Comes Next) to get to this year's !

Your donation will help fund the accessible accommodation they have secured in Edinburgh and marketing to expand and diversify their audiences, as well as our travel costs from Cornwall to Edinburgh.

Written by disabled actor and activist Keron Day with former care worker Alex Howarth and acclaimed performer Helen Chong (My Neighbour Totoro, West End), 'You and Me (and Whoever Comes Next)' is inspired by Keron's own true story and his relationship with his personal assistants. It unpacks the complex relationship between a disabled person and their PAs, something which is a fundamental part of Keron's life, having had PAs since the age of 18. It explores the devastating impact of bad care, and the extraordinary impact of good.

The project forms part of Confluence, Eden Court's celebration of 50 years, and we're delighted to be exploring ideas together as the work begins to take shape.

Last week, Michelle and Gabby headed up to Dundee for the opening of the Design and Disability exhibition at the V&A, and what a fantastic evening it was!

This exhibition celebrates the creativity, innovation and impact of Disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent people in shaping design, past and present. We spent the evening exploring the displays, connecting with others and taking inspiration from the many stories, ideas and perspectives on show.

A huge thank you to the team at for such a thoughtful and powerful exhibition. We left feeling inspired, energised and full of ideas!
