Here’s a first look at a variegated red-and-white rose cane I just made. The petals and sepals were created from sheet glass that I first slumped in a convex mold and then cut into strips. The pieces were stacked in a stainless steel dam, with clear stringers separating the petals and a center composed of opaque white and yellow stringers representing the stamens.

Milropa Glass was a New York based studio operating in the 1970s famous for their cosmic and underwater themed paperweights. The Milropa name is a combination of its founders surnames Michael Miller and R.O. Parker.
