Artist Statement:

The opportunity to create and study art first presented itself to me as a high school student; followed by a brief stint at the Philadelphia College of Art before I found myself in northern California when my art seemed to just fall away.

Decades later, after thirty-six years of film production in Los Angeles and traveling to some exotic and some not-so-much locations for months at a time, I discovered what had been lost, what I allowed to be lost – my love of art. With the newly found passion, my whole world shifted in unexpected ways… the thrill of seeing something I created with an abandonment I likely hadn’t had before.

Recently, I was encouraged to concentrate on my painting, allowing my love of collage to take a back seat, if only for a beat. As I explore new possibilities and techniques that were not there before, I find yet new passages of discovery and wonderment… of art and self.

So here I am with every new adventure and with each turn I take - to discover what had been buried for so long deep inside of me. A joy for each new day that I have brushes in my hands or sticky fingers to show for it, creating to my heart’s content.

Exhibition Dates: May 20 to June 12, 2026

OPENING RECEPTION: May 30, 5 - 8pm

Artist Statement

As an environmental artist, my work reflects a deep reverence for nature and urgency about its fragility. I create intricate, emotionally charged paintings that celebrate nature’s beauty while confronting the realities of climate change. Using vivid colors and dynamic compositions, I merge wildlife with symbols of human advancement to explore the consequences of our actions. My latest exhibition, Combustion, examines our dependence on energy derived from carbon combustion—a process both essential and destructive. Through symbolic realism and abstraction, I distill the tension between nature and industry into singular moments that provoke reflection. My goal is to inspire awareness, empathy, and dialogue around our environmental impact.

About (More Info on TAG Website)

Dr. Bruce Sanders is a neo-expressionist/symbolist, and abstract painter from Malibu. After a long career as an oral & maxillofacial surgeon and UCLA professor, he returned to an earlier life’s passion for art. After the death of his beloved wife, Sanders began to create at a feverish pace. The work became an expression of his emotions: sorrow, loss, and finally hope.

Sanders’ work attempts to represent and memorialize the joys and challenges of his life. His compositions blur the lines between the real and mystical/magical worlds. Using brilliant color, layered textures, and dynamic forms, his paintings are filled with emotional content that compel viewers to react, empathize, and interpret their own feelings.
