In an authoritarian political moment strongly defined by overt anti-trans, anti-disability, anti-poor, anti-q***r, racist and misogynist policy-setting in the context of an ever-growing police state, it is necessary that our intersectional communities build a tighter web of defiance, looking to feminist principles of solidarity and resistance to guide us.
A solid foundation for bridge-building exists between two branches of feminism, Le***an Feminism and Trans Feminism. In this exciting exhibit, six pairs of Philadelphia-based, multigenerational and multi-gender artists collaborated to create new work in mixed media, painting, sculpture, textiles, video, and zines. Months of dialogue and community-building produced this shared project of resistance.
Carrying politics in their bodies the artists responded to each other, their communities, and the world at-large. Referencing themes of monstrosity, q***r joy and pain, being on the fringes, darkness, struggle, and lifelines, their work speaks collectively to the intersection of feminisms, community care, world-building, and the continuing fight for Trans and Q***r liberation.
Additional artist talks and community conversations to be announced.
