Don't be spooked by bats this Halloween! They play an important part of our ecosystem.

October is Bat Appreciation Month. Across Massachusetts, nearly all nine of our native bat species face severe threats from disease, loss of roosting sites, and misconceptions.

In reality, they are nature’s best pest control, eating thousands of insects per bat every single night.

Three ways to help local bats this fall:

Install a bat house facing south/southeast, 15–20 feet up.
Avoid outdoor pesticides so they have clean foraging grounds.
Add native night-scented plants to your garden next spring.

Let’s protect our nighttime allies instead of fearing them. Happy Halloween!

The weather can't be beat for today’s Baby Boo at the Zoo event!

We’re expecting lots of mini trick-or-treaters for games, treats, and fun, plus appearances by Ms. Rachel and Bluey impersonators and a special 11:30 AM performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band!
