Next month for the last show of the 2026 Aiken Music Fest series Nik Parr. This festival is about 50 minutes out of Columbia SC. I have been the festivals production company and it is my favorite place to mix! Take trip and see this awesome equestrian music venue located at the Highfields Event Center.

Brother I hate when I am just doing a sound check and getting my levels dialed in and I get the “it is to loud can you lower it” and it just the monitors (mains muted). It’s gonna be rough night.
Notes:
A lot of places are not set up right for live music. Stage placement and design is setup for failure.
Power sources not in the right places. Why build a stage and not put outlets at least in all of the corners and you know on a couple of different breakers.
Another one of my pet peeves is not having a smooth way in and out. All of my stuff is on wheels and I hate big gaps and uneven surfaces.
What about a door close to the stage so we are not rolling thought the entire place.
I know I am asking a lot but I immediately know if someone with actual live sound experience was involved in the process.
How about tables right up to the stage and no room in front of the stage.

On the other hand god bless the well thought out places and management that actually cares!!

Either way we set them up, work the show and break it down efficiently and get our ass back home.

It’s only rock and roll but I like it yes I do!!
