UNC Clef Hangers Carolina's Oldest A Cappella Group

In 1977, Barry Saunders entered his freshman year at UNC-Chapel Hill with a desire to sing in close harmony. When opportunities within the Music Department proved scarce, Barry decided to form his own a cappella group.

39 years later, Barry’s UNC Clef Hangers have released 19 studio-produced albums and performed for audiences worldwide. We’re honored to be carrying forth his legacy and represent UNC Chapel Hill as Carolina's Oldest A Cappella Group.

We are more than pleased to congratulate Nikhil Copling for his graduation from UNC Chapel Hill. His time with us may have been short but his impact was far from that. He could make you feel like a proud older brother and a safe younger brother in the same moment, even though he was the youngest in the group during his time. He held multiple roles in his time as a Clef, including Winter Jam Manager, Fall Tour Manager, and most memorably being a Publicity Director for most of his time in the group. The Clefs will miss his stage presence, vocal range, and his charismatic personality. His favorite memory as a Clef was when we explored Boston during the tour he co-planned. We are honored that Nikhil chose to spend his short college stay with us and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors.

The Clefs are honored to congratulate Jackson Boss for his graduation from UNC. His impact on this group has been insanely remarkable over the past 4 years, from his amazing and unforgettable personality, to his various leadership roles over the years as President, Assistant music director, social chair, Concert manager, historian, and Spring tour manager. The Clefs will miss the way he took care of us, his perfect pitch, and the way he lit up every room he entered. His favorite memory as a Clef Hanger was the tour he co-planned this past spring when we went to Gatlinburg and Nashville Tennessee. We are honored to have been blessed with Jack Boss as a Clef Hanger and we wish him well in all his future endeavors.
