Burned Out – A Personal Experiment with Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome
Since 2017, I’ve conducted a deeply personal and unconventional study—on myself. Diagnosed with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), a rare but debilitating condition linked to chronic cannabis use, I set out to answer a question many long-time smokers have asked: Can I keep smoking without triggering the violent cycle of vomiting and sickness?
Against all better judgment (and something I strongly advise against), I became my own test subject. Through years of trial, error, and painful lessons, I mapped out my body’s response, pushing limits to see just how much I could tolerate before CHS took over. What started as a promising quest for balance took a drastic turn—until, just 11 days ago, I had to face the truth: the study was over, not by choice, but by necessity.
With little medical research available, I felt compelled to document what I learned—about the illness, my own limits, and the dangers of playing guinea pig in your own experiment. The insights I gained are eye-opening, sometimes shocking, and could change the way people view chronic cannabis use.
Now, I’m debating: should I release this as one comprehensive documentary or break it into a series? Either way, this is essential viewing for any heavy smoker, anyone who knows someone with CHS, or anyone struggling with the condition themselves. My journey might not have all the answers, but I found some—and they’re too important not to share.
Stay tuned.
