This is Winston. His mom commissioned this painting for his dad as a surprise. We collaborated throughout to get the right amount of white face, pink nose, and added a background from another photo. 13/10 a good boy!

“See the TURTLE of enormous girth!
On his shell he holds the Earth.
His thought is slow but always kind;
He holds us all within his mind.
On his back all vows are made;
He sees the truth but mayn’t aid.
He loves the land and loves the sea,
And even loves a child like me.”

I almost never get to witness someone receiving one of my pet portraits… so I got in a nice cry this morning when opened her gift from .charlseymcdonald - so sweet, thank you for sharing that moment with me!

In terms of the painting, after stalking Elizabeth’s insta I thought that combining two photos made more sense (because her cat is usually very wide eyed in all but that one photo). She confirmed that today! Thanks ladies for making my morning!

So the story goes: once again, the classiest sweetest lady commissioned a painting for her friend’s recently departed pup. I finished the painting and it was accidentally shipped to an old address. The painting was in the wind. It was not forwarded or returned (although I know return to senders take a really long time. We found out later that both the friend and the new resident tried to connect via the landlord to no avail.) Denise suggested paying for a new painting… I thought, let’s send a postcard to the “wrong” address and see what happens. In a move that absolutely restored my faith in humanity, the current resident texted me when he got my postcard - “I could tell this was special” 😭 and then he proceeded to mail it directly to Chloe in a Pay it Forward move that melts my heart.

Along with allll the photos, I love hearing about their personalities. This is from - the mom of Holly, Sparky & Cowboy:

“We are looking to get a portrait of our 3 dogs. They are our first set of dogs and they hold a very special place in our hearts, so I wanted to get something done of them we can cherish long after they are gone (they are all very healthy, by the way, no one is on their way out!). They have such unique and different personalities. They also all share red fur in someway.

Holly, our oldest, is 8 and she is white with red dots and freckles. She is shy but also the sassiest dog of the bunch. Sparky is our second, he is entirely red with a little white on his chin. He is a little rambunctious, we do agility with him. He has the biggest smile. Cowboy is our third dog, he is black with a red and white chest. He has ears that are a smidge bigger than Sparky’s (even though he is half the size) and is the biggest cuddle bug.”

This painting of Re*****on was commissioned by one fighter pilot to another. Mid creation I asked if I could add a crescent moon and this was his response:

“The full moon is significant to Biff - his combat missions were typically at night - but he never got scheduled on a full moon because many senior officers choose to fly only in good weather with a big ol moonball.

It’s even got a name: “Commander’s Moon” 🌕”

So in honor of that big ol Moonball out there tonight, here’s sweet Re*****on.
