Martin Lewis, Aust.-Amer., (1881-1962) Chance Meeting, Drypoint, 1941, Pub. by Society of American Etchers, McCarron 131, Ed. 105, 10-1/2 x 7-1/2, signed in pencil, on medium cream laid paper, with full margins, 15-1/2 x 10-3/4, the original glassine hinges at top, a small stray 3/16ths thread like spec of ink to lower right margin, a few minor discreet handling creases, otherwise a rich, pristine impression of this great print by Lewis, with the original portfolio cover, cover sheet publication essay by John Taylor Arms on Martin Lewis which accompanied the print, the cover tissue guard, membership invitation and small typed note from John Taylor Arms, all in good condition. As this print is so popular, it is uncommon to have the original portfolio cover, which shows some edge wear, and related ephemera, which save for expected small creases to the tissue guard, are pristine. Eva & Ernest Watson were both great printmakers who favored and promoted color linoleum block prints. I'm sharing a selection.
