Coming November 27: A Collaboration in Glass V 🌀

Preston Singletary and Jody Naranjo reunite for their fifth collaborative exhibition at Blue Rain Gallery. The collaboration brings together Singletary’s mastery of glass and Naranjo’s distinctive pottery forms and hand-cut designs. These blown and sand-carved vessels explore light, color, and pattern, reflecting the artists’ Tlingit and Santa Clara Pueblo heritage.

Join us at Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe to celebrate this continuing creative partnership.

“Tilikum in Iceland”

The documentary film ‘Blackfish’ changed my life and made me an activist. The plight of the killer whale Tilikum, who’s story is told in heartbreaking detail in the film, changed hearts and minds regarding orcas in captivity- so much so that Seaworld was forced to end their captive orca breeding program and commit to ending orca captivity. Tilikum was stolen from his Icelandic family, his mother and his pod, when he was a very young whale and he never saw them again- indeed, Tilikum died in a concrete tank at Seaworld Orlando when he was only in his 30’s. Wild killer whales can live a human lifespan. My painting of Tilikum was my wish for him, to be home in Icelandic waters with his family- and free.

Daniel Friday has lived in the Northwest his whole life, a shining product of the studio glass movement. Friday has cultivated his artistic vision with strong influence from his indigenous roots in the Pacific Northwest. Craft, form and idea drive Dan’s work from conception to object. The past two decades working with artists such as Dale Chihuly and Paul Marioni have given Dan the tools and inspiration to develop his craft and produce his art. He feels fortunate to have experienced the rich diversity of Seattle for his skill development. Currently, Dan’s work is in collections around the world.
