About a month ago I had the chance to see Ben Folds perform Fragile live. One thought kept coming back to me: The most confusing relationships are the ones where the person causing the damage looks like the one who needs protecting.

When someone appears hurt, vulnerable, or fragile, it can make it difficult to recognize unhealthy patterns.

Compassion matters and so does accountability.

IMO people often discard accountability with compassion.

One of the first questions I ask clients is: "Why are you here?"

Can you guess how many of my male clients answer with: "I've concluded that my emotional style is unhealthy."

Very few.

More often, the answer sounds like: "Someone important to me is unhappy with my emotional style."

Those are two very different starting points for therapy.

We often talk about closure as though it's something another person gives us.

An explanation.
An apology.
One last conversation.

But what happens when none of those things ever arrive?

One of the more difficult lessons many people learn is that healing can't always depend on another person's willingness—or ability—to provide answers.

Sometimes relationships end without explanations.
Sometimes friendships fade without discussion.
Sometimes people leave questions behind that never get resolved.

As frustrating as that can be, closure is often less about getting the answer and more about deciding how you'll move forward if the answer never comes.

Have you found closure to be something another person gave you - or something you eventually created for yourself?

Spend enough time making content and eventually you'll become a villain in someone else's narrative.

Funny part is that most of us charlatans aren't really that interesting.

Take me for instance - I'm a guy who mows his own lawn, loves his family, and -per my wife and daughter- spends a questionable amount of time making free therapy videos for strangers on the internet.

And making a custom t-shirts.
And making ridiculous memes.

Gotta go - pickleball awaits.
