Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra

Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra NPO provides high-quality, family-friendly, affordable classical and light classical concerts for Central Maryland residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Professional, student, and amateur musicians learn and perform under professional leadership. The Londontowne Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is Central Maryland’s premier community orchestra. We are delighted to serve the community through quality orchestral music by continuing to highlight the gems of the orchestral repertoire while featuring wonderfully talented local soloists and outstanding orchestr

a members. The LSO was started in 2003 by the late Kathy Solano, a professional violinist who also taught in the public school system for more than 30 years. She had a vision of a community orchestra in Anne Arundel County that would provide high-quality classical and light classical music at an affordable price. Her vision also included reaching out to young people to give them experience and education in an orchestral setting. Throughout the years, the LSO has lived up to that vision as it has grown in size, scope, and popularity. The LSO typically plays five concerts each season, with one of those geared toward young people. Under the direction of Anna Binneweg since 2007, the orchestra has matured into the premier orchestra that it is today. The LSO is composed of professionals, military musicians, private/public school teachers, extraordinary amateurs, and students. The orchestra reaches out into the community with chamber recitals, quartets and quintets. As part of its mission, the LSO is committed to bringing quality symphonic music to students in the county. We offer the following programs and opportunities of outreach to support music education to students:

• Free Admission is offered for all students.

• Playing with the LSO – Qualified student musicians may audition to become a member of the LSO.

• Master Classes – Members of the LSO donate their time to facilitate master classes and workshops in our high schools.

• Annual Young Artist Competition – The LSO gives the winners of the annual Young Artist Competition the opportunity to perform as a soloist in an LSO subscription concert. Since its inception, the LSO has been bringing Anne Arundel County residents the excitement and passion that only live music can create. You can help make the music happen by contributing to our effort. Know that the LSO continues to thrive because of the loyalty of our audience, our sponsors, and our generous donors. Annual contributions help the LSO, a 501c(3) organization, maintain a balanced budget and allow us to achieve our mission to present high-quality, memorable symphonic music, and offer varied programming throughout Anne Arundel County. Through your generosity we continue to strengthen our region’s arts and cultural community and to fulfill our commitment to you.

🎓SENIOR SPOTLIGHT🎓 Last but certainly not least for our seniors is violinist Vivienne Newburger! Please join us in congratulating Vivienne and wishing her the best in her future endeavors 🎉

Vivienne Newburger is a graduating senior in the Apex Arts program at Broadneck High School. She began learning violin at five years old, and today, is an active participant in the Annapolis music scene, performing with the Broadneck String and Chamber Orchestras, the Chesapeake Youth Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and — of course — the Naptown Philharmonic. In her spare time, Vivienne enjoys teaching young violin students in the Broadneck area.

Vivienne will attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland this Fall, studying Applied Mathematics through their joint Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees honors program. Vivienne will continue her studies of violin in Scotland, and hopes to earn a Master’s in Music after her time at St Andrews.

From conducting the National Anthem at Naptown’s Halloween concert when she was 9 years old to actually performing in the ensemble as a high school student, Vivienne feels honored to have been able to get involved with such a welcoming and fun orchestra. Vivienne’s favorite memory from Naptown is getting ice cream in Annapolis after NPO concerts with her friends. She will always cherish her time in Naptown, and looks forward to seeing everyone again in the future.

Make sure to join us at our season finale on June 6th to catch the seniors in their final NPO concert as high school students!
