RIP Torpedo Mascaw 🙏
Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of our brother, friend, and founding member, Tope Sadiq — a.k.a Torpedo Mascaw, Tope No. 1.
For over a decade, Tope stood at the heart of the Don’t Drop the Mic journey, gracing stages across the country and leaving audiences inspired by his gift. A dynamic spoken word artist, he carved out a style that was entirely his own, blending poetry and rap into what he proudly called “Flowetry”; a unique expression that became his signature and touched everyone who experienced it.
Tope was more than a performer. He was a creative force, a brotherhood builder, and a constant reminder that authenticity will always have a place on stage. His passion for spoken word, musical improvisation, and artistic expression helped shape the culture of Don’t Drop the Mic and influenced countless artists who came after him.
Those who knew him personally will remember another side of him too. We fondly called him “The Ghost” because of his legendary ability to somehow appear at any venue, any event, anywhere, without a ticket and without being stopped. He moved with a confidence that made it seem like he belonged everywhere he went. And somehow, he always did.
Young at heart, endlessly creative, and unapologetically himself, Tope never lost touch with the spirit that made people gravitate towards him. His laughter, energy, talent, and presence left a mark that cannot be erased.
Though he may no longer stand on our stages, his words, his art, and the memories he created will continue to echo through every performance, every cypher, and every artist he inspired.
Rest well, brother.
Your legacy lives on.
