We preserve, archive, document and research populist imagery from the inception of print culture in the 19th century to contemporary times. The collection and services offered by CIViC will complement several such universities, world over, that have begun to offer courses on popular visual culture as a theoretically formed academic discipline concerning itself with larger debates on nationhood, ci

tizenship, gender, urbanization and globalization, cultural identity, the reasons and processes of communalism and marginalization. It will also act as a resource for the research and teaching in history, sociology, cultural studies, postcolonial studies, gender studies, art history and aesthetics, film studies, etc. CIViC also encourages individuals and institutions to engage in this field whereby a transnational forum for scholarly dialogue is created.
