A positive step forward for women in technology and female founders!
This week’s Autumn Budget brought some really welcome announcements for women in tech, with new initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers, improving career opportunities and supporting female entrepreneurs to grow and scale their businesses!
It’s encouraging to see the Government recognising the challenges women continue to face across our industry and introducing measures that could make a real difference.
So what was announced? 👇
💚 Tech Forward Standard – A new voluntary standard encouraging tech employers to improve recruitment, retention, career progression and workplace culture for women.
💚 Inclusive Investment Standard – A new standard aimed at improving access to funding for female entrepreneurs.
💚 Scale-up Women’s Programme – New support to help female founders grow their businesses through mentoring, investor networks and specialist advice.
💚 £200 million investment commitment – The British Business Bank will double its planned commitments to women-led businesses and investment funds.
For us at WeAreTechWomen, these announcements are particularly welcome following our Lovelace Report, produced with Oliver Wyman, which revealed that between 40,000 and 60,000 women leave the UK technology sector every year, costing our economy up to £3.5 billion annually.
Alongside the recently launched TechFirst Women’s Programme, which we are proud to be a core partner of, these initiatives could create a more joined-up approach to supporting women throughout their technology careers.
We have the data, we know the challenges, and now we need action!
Of course, the real test will be in the delivery, but this is certainly a welcome step in the right direction.
Because it’s not just about getting women into technology. It’s about ensuring they stay, progress, lead and succeed! 🙌
