Poetry in Palmers Green Biannual (Spring and Autumn) Poetry Readings in the Parish Centre behind St John's Church Palmers Green It features established and up and coming poets.

Poetry in Palmers Green was started by Joanna Cameron, Katherine Gallagher and Myra Schneider five years ago after Palmers Green bookshop closed. Joanna, who was manager of the shop, had made it a cultural and community centre and put on regular readings. Poetry in Palmers Green is not a replacement of the shop as a centre but it has become a popular poetry venue. It holds two readings a year in t

he spring (late April) and the autumn (late October) in the Parish Centre behind St. John’s Church, which was the church the poet, Stevie Smith, attended. It also includes floor readings. There is always an enthusiastic audience. In 2111, following the opening of the excellent parish centre adjoining the Church, Katherine and Myra offered a day of two workshops and in 2012 they are each offering a full day’s workshop and the intention is to continue with two day workshops each year. In 2012 as part of the cultural festival for the Olympics there is an extra reading on Saturday June 23rd. Poetry in Palmers Green has a very supportive committee which has grown in size over the years. It includes Joanna Cameron, John Mackay , Peter Stavrou, Lynda How, Christine Vial, Sonia Jarema, Diana Evans, Myra Schneider and Katherine Gallagher. I am delighted to have been interviewed by David Perman in the September issue of Acumen. He asked many searching questions. Writing my responses in the interview made me see just how much dedicated work Danielle Hope and her team does in producing the magazine. As well as including an interview there is a large selection of poems, work in translation, an extensive review section and work by young writers. The magazine also has an attractively designed cover. It doesn’t receive any grant from the Arts Council so it is entirely dependent on subscriptions. It’s well worth supporting.
