Happening in mid September: INTRODUCTION TO EN PLEIN AIR PAINTING ~ A day long workshop exploring the MacIntosh Run Trail System with Geoffrey Grantham

Saturday, September 12, 2026
(In case of rain, Sunday, September 13)
8:30am - 3:30pm = 7 total hours

Discover the joy and immediacy of painting outdoors in this one-day introduction to en plein air painting (working either oil or acrylic) with celebrated landscape painter Geoffrey Grantham.

Designed for painters who already have some experience working in the studio and now want to expand into painting directly from nature, this workshop introduces the unique challenges and rewards of working on location. The day begins outdoors in the beautiful MacIntosh Run Trail System, where participants will spend approximately five hours painting directly in the landscape. Geoffrey will demonstrate how to quickly assess a scene and translate it into a compelling composition while working within the changing conditions of natural light.

Coming up later this month: From the Studio to the World is a four-day professional development workshop designed for painters (working in both oil or acrylic) who want to take their work seriously and begin exhibiting professionally. Many artists spend years developing their technical skills but remain unsure how to transition from making individual paintings to building a thoughtful and sustainable artistic practice. This workshop focuses on that transition.

Participants will learn how to develop a cohesive body of work, articulate their artistic ideas, write professional materials such as artist statements and CVs, and present their work confidently to galleries and audiences. We will also discuss studio practice, scale, sequencing work for exhibitions, websites, social media presence, and how to build relationships with galleries, curators, and collectors.

Monday, August 24 - Thursday, August 27, 2026
Daily 9:30am - 4:30pm = 24 total hours + Exhibition

Only 2 spots left for this 2 day workshop with one of Canada’s most beloved illustrators Emma FitzGerald Link on my bio to the website and just have a look at the Workshops.

I really couldn’t be happier that my extra large studio space at times transforms and is opened up to become a space for others to learn.

Please spread help to spread word!

In the midst of my project. Lots of interviews with people of Italian descent. Lots of paintings underway. But every now and then I seem to pause to just consider what I’m doing and why. It certainly hit last night during Pizza + Cocktail Nights at Lots to think about…and listening to one of my fav Italian musicians certainly puts me in a simile mindset to when I lived in Italia.

Busy last week. Busy this week. Hopefully makes for a busy future. So grateful to be doing workshops at the same time while painting, but it does distract a bit from the painting. Still working and creating…just not painting. But overall: amazing week. Photos to come. Project announcement happening soon! Just so lucky to be doing it!

What’s the difference between high quality paints and middle of the road paints? These new .grahamco walnut oil paints that we have just brought in are worth the extra effort to bring them all the way the Herring Cove.

They were the starting point for this portrait and moving the paint around is a joy. But that’s just my opinion. Thanks M. Graham for doing what you do. Can’t wait to bring in the next lot!
