MarĂa viendo la crucifixiĂłn
JanMiroslav
AcrĂlico sobre lienzo.
180cm x 108cm

MarĂa no necesita mirar hacia nosotros.

🇨🇦 A gaze suspended between the grief of a mother and the mystery of faith. The world around Mary becomes ash; only the red in her eyes and the gold of her tears remain alive.
Reflected in her eyes, almost imperceptibly, are the three crosses: Christ and the two men who shared his fate.
Mary does not need to look at us.
We are looking at what she sees.
A work about grief, sacrifice, and that which remains sacred even in the face of death.

A masked luchador (mexican wrestler) wears the vestments of a Catholic Pope, flanked by an eagle and Tláloc, the Aztec god of rain. The red background is the blood shed by victims of violence in Mexico. The serpent-shaped staff, held by the wrestler, who stands in for the Mexican people themselves, symbolizes their intelligence and creativity in the face of struggle. The cross speaks to Catholicism's deep roots in Mexican culture, while golden rays bursting from his eye represent enduring hope. The mask both conceals and reveals: it's the archetype of a people who fight, disguise themselves, and keep standing.

🇪🇸
