We are saddened to hear of the passing of renowned Australian music journalist and broadcaster Glenn A. Baker.. who died today at the age of 74 💔

We were lucky to have Glenn A. Baker join us at many of our exhibitions over the years - the photo above taken at our Andy Summers “Inside the Police” exhibition in 2008.❤️

Known for his vast music knowledge, Baker was a respected cultural commentator, historian, author, record company co-founder, band manager and Australian editor of Billboard magazine for over 20 years.

He was also a deeply passionate fan said to have owned 80,000 records and around 30,000 CDs… a national treasure and champion of Australian music… ✨

Baker is remembered by his family as “somebody who absolutely grabbed life” creating a home filled with “music and chaos” for his six children and thirteen grandchildren.

A statement on Baker’s page noted: “While the family wishes for privacy, if you do wish to honour Glenn or continue his legacy in some way, have a passionate conversation today with somebody about your favourite Australian muso or band.” 🎶

🥀 15 Years….. 🌹 Vale the ever beautiful Amy Winehouse 🌹 who passed away 15 years ago today... July 23rd 2011, at the age of 27 💔

This is one of our very favourite photographs by Jill Furmanovsky, shot at the Union Chapel in London 2006.. Here’s the story behind the photo: “I took live pictures of Amy Winehouse for MOJO Magazine at the Union Chapel in 2006. She seemed particularly happy that night and made references to a loved one (Blake) who was in the audience. After the show I asked Amy if she would mind me shooting a quick portrait. The road crew were loading out and a cold wind blew in through the open stage door. Amy didn’t mind, she obliged by standing against the wall in the corridor, lifting her head to catch the light while the autumn leaves blew in” - Jill Furmanovsky 💫

⚡️”Joy Division were playing at the YMCA in London supported by Monochrome Set. I don’t remember which publications sent me to shoot the show but it was probably Sounds. The show was sold out and Ian Curtis was a compelling performer. I loved the strange way he moved in his grey school boy trousers. The band were not yet well known and it was easy for me to visit the dressing-room after the gig to take some pictures. They didn’t mind and I didn’t take too many to disturb them. I still think that pictures of the musicians just before or just after they’ve come off stage makes great rock photography.” - Jill Furmanovsky, Photographer 📸
