RATNEST is the latest addition to the Performing Arts in Ballarat and the ONLY dedicated space for improvisational acting in Ballarat.

Meeting each week with like-minded creatives to learn and implement impro acting techniques in a fun and casual setting

📣 Moving ahead of schedule a bit, our final workshop this year will be Wednesday 28th October! Big changes are happening around the nest, so everything has had to move forward - If you haven't been to a session yet, this is LITERALLY the last chance this year to do so!

🐀 Naturally curious, us rats love to play games! Hide and Seek are very popular, so are Tag, Wrestling, Treasure hunting and putting hidden things in our enclosures. This is in part to our good memory; In fact rats have such good memories that we can travel a route once and have it memorised!

😜 Back from being sick, it's fitting to show some silly photos taken during our party last month and a silly shot from JD's final session with Impro Melbourne

🚗 JD has been very busy this week, having seen a performance of 'Get Real', a performance piece that interrogated the lens through which we view the world and how our different experiences shape our perspectives.

🧟 JD also saw the hilarious 'A Completely Improvised Zombie Apocolypse' .improv produced by the talented . It is an amazing experience to see the cast weave unrelated prompts into simultaneously funny and heart-warming stories. To the improvising eye, it is a fantastic opportunity to see how the techniques we have been using in workshops apply in a production context 👀

🐀 GIANT RAT HAS BEEN GIANT BUSY 🏃‍♂️

🎭 From mid-July to mid-September, JD has training under the incredibly talented Amanda Knight in their Spontaneity course. JD tells me all about it in the GNAWESOME NEWSLETTER, where he details some of the key takeaways he gathered from the course while he played drama games with other students! In the first photo, you can see JD with Katherine and Amanda from Impro Melbourne behind him and some of the ensemble! Huge thank you to Impro Melbourne and the ensemble members! JD tells me he will be back there very soon.

🎂 I'm still recovering from the 1st Birthday celebrations last week, as you can see JD and friends had heaps of fun and ate a very tasty (fake!) dapper looking rat. Thanks to everyone who attended last week and helped celebrate impro in Ballarat!

🎊 At BPAC from Wednesday 16th, from 7:15 - 8:15PM is MY FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY! To celebrate we will be playing a whole bunch of party games, wearing silly hats! JD said there will be a cake too, but much to my despair, it won't made of cheddar 🧀

🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY RATNEST!! 🎉

I can't believe it, but RATNEST is officially 1 year old!

🥳 What an incredible year it has been, chock full of workshops, special guests, masterclasses and becoming fully immersed in the Performing Arts space in Ballarat, all for the cause of bringing impro back to Ballarat for the first time in 30 years.

🗿 It's hard work being art 🗿

At our previous workshop we explored spontaneity and short scene work through association and spontaneity, with the pictures included being some scene work during Statues! A ratty squeak-out to 😎🐀

🐀📣 Hello there, GIANT RAT Reporting in post Masterclass with Patrick last week! 📣

🧑‍🏫 The Masterclass was chock-full of impro insight and gave context to what impro is, how to improvise to our fullest, fail with joy and most importantly, how to inspire and support each other while collaborating together to tell good stories.

❗ Normal impro workshops resume tomorrow and will continue until September 16, 7:15-8:15PM 501-503 Neill Street Soldiers Hill.

❗ ❗ There will be no workshop on September 23 - JD will be in Canberra taking in all the sights and sounds of the ACT. Meanwhile, I'll be taking in all the tastes of an excellent cheeseboard!
