I can't believe it, but RATNEST is officially 1 year old!

🥳 What an incredible year it has been, chock full of workshops, special guests, masterclasses and becoming fully immersed in the Performing Arts space in Ballarat, all for the cause of bringing impro back to Ballarat for the first time in 30 years.

🐀📣 Hello there, GIANT RAT Reporting in post Masterclass with Patrick last week! 📣

🧑‍🏫 The Masterclass was chock-full of impro insight and gave context to what impro is, how to improvise to our fullest, fail with joy and most importantly, how to inspire and support each other while collaborating together to tell good stories.

❗ Normal impro workshops resume tomorrow and will continue until September 16, 7:15-8:15PM 501-503 Neill Street Soldiers Hill.

❗ ❗ There will be no workshop on September 23 - JD will be in Canberra taking in all the sights and sounds of the ACT. Meanwhile, I'll be taking in all the tastes of an excellent cheeseboard!

👨‍🏫Join Patrick, the Swiss Army Knife of the theatre world and skilled improvisation teacher with 25 years of experience, for a masterclass on building spontaneity, creativity and confidence as part of a collaborative ensemble. This is a great opportunity for both seasoned performers and those just starting out to explore practical techniques and exercises.

❓ Together we will examine the role of active listening, genuine connection, and shared focus in creating compelling improvised scenes. The workshop also addresses the fear of failure, encouraging performers to embrace risk-taking and uncertainty as creative tools.

🎭 The Stories and The Songs: A Playback Theatre Workshop - Earlier this year, RATNEST had the pleasure of producing 'A Taste of Playback' - After a fully booked class, Shel is putting on another Playback Theatre Workshop, this time focusing on creating narratives without words and instead using music (from a live musician!) to depict emotional realities.

🖌️ Tea Towel Screen Printing: Join Effie Williams, Performer, Artist and Painter of individually painted fashion and wares in screen-printing your very own tea towel! Screen-printing has been around since at least the 1870's and is a classic way to make a design come to life.

Join Patrick, the Swiss Army Knife of the theatre world and skilled improvisation teacher, for a masterclass on building spontaneity, creativity and confidence as part of a collaborative ensemble.

During the 5th of August, no drop in workshops will be running!

🎭 Every Wednesday night from the 19th August - 7th October 7PM-9PM Impro 8 Week Intensive!

For 8 Weeks go on a crash course in the core techniques of Improvisational Acting. Gain a foundational understanding of spontaneity, physicality and accepting and apply your learning in a series of short-form exercises and games. Gain confidence in your performance skills by working with other actors over the course of 8 weeks, culminating in a public showcase to an audience of family and friends.

Regular workshops will still be underway during the intensive!

‼️Hello everyone GIANT RAT here, proudly announcing my 8 Week Intensive Impro workshops at Ballarat Performing Arts Centre! The workshops begin Wednesday nights, 7PM-9PM from August 19 and run to October 30. The course is suitable for anyone with beginner level performance experience.

❔ Join RATNEST for a crash course in the core techniques of Improvisational Acting. Gain a foundational understanding of spontaneity, physicality and accepting and apply your learning in a series of short-form exercises and games. Gain confidence in your performance skills by working with other actors over the course of 8 weeks, culminating in a public showcase to an audience of family and friends.

🧑‍🏫 RATNEST is the beating heart of improvisation in Ballarat, founded and facilitated by local Actor and Producer JD Wills. JD has been doing improvisation for over 10 years and is currently involved in a Ballarat based performance ‘Travels with My Black Dog’ as an assistant producer and script consultant. He has also performed in troupes and solo in performances across the state in the ‘My Story: Stories from the waiting room’.
