For Solo Studios, Ilse Schermer, founder and curator of IS Art Gallery, brings her distinctive curatorial vision to The Valley Potager, creating a Sculpture Garden where art, architecture and the natural world come together.

Surrounded by the beauty of this unique setting, sculptural works invite visitors to pause, explore and discover the unexpected connections between form, material and place. Here, nature is more than a backdrop; it becomes part of the experience, allowing each artwork to find its own voice within the landscape.

Meet Gordon Williams, a self-taught South African artist who turns his passion for painting into a colourful exploration of the world around him.

Blending Expressionism and Impressionism, Gordon captures the ever-changing landscapes of the Swartland and the beauty of everyday objects through bold colours, expressive brushwork and an intuitive approach to painting. For him, art is more than a practice; it is a space for escape, reflection and discovery.

lse Schermer, founder and curator of IS Art Gallery, is known for her thoughtful approach to presenting contemporary art in immersive and meaningful ways. For Solo Studios, she brings this vision to life through a distinctive Sculpture Garden, transforming an outdoor space into a dialogue between art, landscape and architecture.

Bringing together sculptural works that respond to nature, materiality and place, the Sculpture Garden invites visitors to slow down, look closer and experience art beyond the traditional gallery walls. Helderberg-based artist Clare Menck is known for her figurative paintings and prints exploring swimmers, self-portraits and the n**e. Her work examines the human figure through an intimate and expressive artistic practice, with a career spanning more than two decades.

Her mid-career exhibition, Hidden Life: 20 Years of Painting, sponsored by Sanlam, toured South Africa, with selected works later featured in an international exhibition celebrating female n**e self-portraiture at the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum in Germany. Having lived in the Swartland for many years, Menck returns to Riebeek Kasteel for Solo Studios, presenting a cameo solo exhibition of her latest jelly plate and Tetra Pak prints, alongside an upcycled printmaking workshop.

At Solo Studios, discover Clare’s latest work and experience more than 60 artists across studios, galleries and creative spaces throughout the Riebeek Valley.
