It’s all about the details! Leila Walter’s beautiful hand-woven tapestries in our “Objekt” exhibition. Leila Walter

Here we can see the contrast between the rough textile waste and the soft, quiet mohair panels. Looking closer at “Embracing Edges”, “The Landscape Carries Us”, “To Touch The Intangible”, and “That Which Remains”.

“Objekt” showcases an immersive selection of exceptional, handmade artisanal objects that honour the materiality and process, encouraging us to slow down and take a closer look.

“Objekt” is currently showing at RK Contemporary!

We are thrilled to showcase the tactility and quiet precision of Leila Walter in our group show, “Objekt”! Leila Walter

Walter is a textile artist who uses waste from the fashion industry and raw, natural fibers to look at memory; recording agriculture, hard labour, human touch, and time. Her work acts as an invitation to slow down, find stillness, and notice the relationship between our bodies and the land.

Pop in for a visit at RK Contemporary to see these beautiful hand-woven tapestries! Exhibitions runs from 7 June - 31 July.

The intention behind the “River Series” is to pay homage to a handful of African rivers that have shaped Paul Kristafor’s life in many ways. Using elements of copper work on vessels that lend themselves to it, he traces sections of these rivers’ courses. On River Series #2, the large piece of beaten copper crossing the crack represents, from left to right, the course of the Zambezi from its confluence with the Chobe at Kazungula to Victoria Falls at the far right.

The idea that small stretches of the Zambezi, Lugenda, or Rovuma might find homes around the world is, Paul hopes, a way of drawing attention to these wild watercourses that stitch together the continent we call home.

As an aside, the copper used in this piece came from the old telephone line between Porterville and Piketberg, making it, in its own way, a river of electrons carrying conversations between the Swartland and the outside world.

A recent visit to ceramic artist Juliet Eidelman’s studio offered a glimpse into the process behind her beautifully crafted work. Originally an architect, Juliet made the bold decision to leave the profession and pursue ceramics full-time. Her work reflects a deep understanding of form, balance and detail, translated into objects made by hand.
These two large vases are now available at RK Contemporary

RK Contemporary is expanding its vision with an exciting new chapter.

They are proud to introduce a dedicated gallery space celebrating handmade objects and collectible design, a thoughtfully curated environment where craftsmanship takes centre stage. This new section will showcase artisanal works ranging from handmade furniture and bespoke lighting to ceramics, hand-carved wood pieces, hand-stitched textiles, and other finely crafted objects that blur the line between art and function.

By bringing together contemporary art and exceptional design, RK Contemporary invites visitors into an immersive experience that honours materiality, process, and the enduring value of the handmade.

Featured artists and makers include Right Mulcore, Irene Engelbrecht, Daan Samuels, Mariette Gregor, Hennie Meyer, Berdine van der Mescht, Annelie Janse van Rensburg, Paul Kristafor, Leila Walter, Juliet Eidelman, Catherine Brennon, and Bros on the Road.
