A screen is a good place to find new work. A book is how you keep it.

That's why Issue 2 of The Work of Art is now in print, alongside the free version online.

Every issue of The Work of Art is free to read, for anyone, anywhere. We'd like to keep it that way.

If Issue 2 meant something to you, a gift of any size helps us publish the next one and bring more emerging artists to new readers.

Issue 3 is called ROOTS: where we come from, what grounds us, and the people and places we carry.

If you make art or write, we'd love to see your work. Submissions close Thursday, October 15. It's free to submit, and all mediums are welcome.

26 artists and writers made Issue 2 what it is: poets, painters, printmakers, a wire sculptor, a resin jeweler, essayists and more.

If one of their pieces stays with you, tell them. Artists rarely hear it. Every contributor is listed on the issue page:

So many pieces in Issue 2 turned out to be about the things people keep: a jade necklace, a rusted iron key, a porch light left on.

What's something your family has held onto? Tell us in the comments.
