Happy Tuesday folks!

When I watched Episode 8 I thought, “Did Bizarro’s pet have a name? I thought we came up with one.” Went back to the script and lo and behold, he does! CLIFFORD (who we named after Clifford the Big Red Dog). I don’t recall that being canon in the comics, but it’s canon in the show, even though no one ever says his name.

And that got me thinking, let’s peel back the curtain and show what writing an action sequence looks like.

We wanted to describe the action clear enough for our artists to get a great mental image, while also giving them leeway to make each scene their own. The important thing to avoid is to write “and then they fight” because that’s waaaay too vague. Give people a blueprint, and then they’ll take it from there. And our team rules, so we knew we were in good hands once the script reached the story and art departments.

So enjoy some sections of the script that described some of my favorite moments!

And let me know if you have questions. I’m thinking of making little Q & A videos to talk about writing and drawing for TV, novels, and comics. Let me know what you want to know about the process!

Okay Comic-Con shenanigans are over, back to work!

Welcome folks to the super glamorous world of novel editing! I’ve got my laptop on one side with Scrivener in revision mode, and my Cintiq on the other side with the PDF of my novel with notes. And also pictured are my emotional support plants to keep my desk looking festive!

Over the past three years I wrote a fantasy novel called Tamdarran that I will be querying to literary agents in a couple of months. After sending drafts to my writers group and other writer friends for their feedback, I implemented their notes as well as my own, first in Pages, then upgraded to Scrivener. I created a PDF, read it out loud, and added additional revisions.

(Sidebar: I highly recommend reading your novel out loud. You really get a feel for how your characters sound and it does wonders for removing clunky dialogue!)

Now I’m revising the novel again to send to my readers for feedback. After that, I’ll make one more round of revisions, and then it’s querying time!

I’ve heard that querying is a soul-crushing and time-consuming process. Like pitching shows and auditioning for roles, there’s a lot of rejection. Fortunately, I’m used to that! So I’ll give querying an hundred shots or so, revise my letter and novel accordingly as I go, and see what happens.

I was inspired by everyone I met at Comic-Con and am excited to continue the process! Now that Comic-Con is over, what projects are you starting or continuing?

Day Three: Complete! Yesterday I found my old pal Superman Flood Movement, and attended absolutely fantastic panels with amazing artists, writers, and academics!

Here are the panels:

1. How To Pitch Your Story For Comics, Graphic Novels, Film and Animation

2. Hispanic Creators and Artists Discuss the Comic Book Industry

3. O.P.P.: Writing Other People’s Intellectual Property

4. Level Up: Taking Your Comics To The Next Tier

5. Spiritual Themes In Comics

I learned so much, took so many notes, and met absolute rock star creators. And I bought some amazing comics by Jordan Morris
and rob⚡️pilkington from Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore and Odyssey Comics respectively!

Thank you everyone for the fabulous creative work that you do! It was a joy to listen to you! And thank you to everyone who chatted with me after the panels. Loved hearing your stories!

That concludes my time at Comic-Con 2026. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and looking forward to next year.
