I think a lot of us say “celebrate our differences” and immediately picture a version of that where everything still feels comfortable.

Which is… not really how differences work.

So I recorded something about that. What it actually looks like when those differences are real, present, and a little inconvenient.

Turns out, that might be where the value is.

If you’ve ever felt that gap between the phrase and real life, this one’s for you.

Today's Tip For The Aspiring Compassionist

From Episode 112 - How To Show God’s Love To Others: Practical Ways That Shine

See the Person.

It is really easy to reduce someone to the thing they did, the choice they made, the belief they hold, or the lifestyle you do not understand.

But people are not projects. They are not arguments with shoes.

They are whole human beings with fears, histories, hopes, and probably a few reasons they became who they are.

Compassion does not mean you approve of everything. It means you start with the person before you start with your opinion about the person.

So today, before you react to what someone does, pause long enough to remember who they are.

I think at some point we just collectively decided not to ask too many follow-up questions about this.

Like:
“God’s Love is unconditional.”
“Also there’s hell.”

And everyone just kind of nodded like, “Yep. That checks out.”
(No further questions. Please move along.)

So I asked the question anyway.
Not to argue. Just to… actually think about it for a second.

If you’ve ever felt that quiet “wait… what?” this one’s for you.

Today's Tip For The Aspiring Compassionist

From Episode 108 - Embracing Imperfections: Finding Strength, Grace, And God’s Love

Connection Over Perfection.

Perfection is a terrible friendship strategy.

Because if you only let people see the polished version of you, they never actually meet you. They meet your brochure.

And friend, you are not a brochure. You are a whole person with stories, doubts, mistakes, weird little joys, and probably a cabinet full of mugs you did not need but absolutely defend. Boy does that resonate.

Real connection happens when the mask comes down a little.

So today, let someone see something honest. Not everything. Just one real thing.

Today's Tip For The Aspiring Compassionist

From Episode 108 - Embracing Imperfections: Finding Strength, Grace, And God’s Love

Own Your Imperfections.

We spend so much energy trying to look like we have it all together.

Which is funny, because almost nobody has it all together. Most of us are duct tape, caffeine, prayer, and one unread email away from becoming a folk song.

But hiding your flaws does not make you stronger. It usually just makes you lonelier.

Compassion starts getting real when we can say, “Yep, this is part of me too, and I’m still growing.”

So today, own one imperfect part of yourself without turning it into a courtroom drama.
