One of the more challenging parts of creating an interdisciplinary production is the cross-pollination process. Our cast represents backgrounds in ballet, break dance, martial arts, gymnastics, contortion, hip hop, tricking, parkour, and even more. Each performer is learning the other's art forms, vocabulary, and individual styles while also working to seamlessly blend them into a show. It's incredibly fun work. It's also difficult work, both mentally and physically.
Safety, creative consent, and the well-being of artists are among our top priorities (they're core values of abrasiveMedia). Even with these measures in place injuries are a real threat. Two of our cast, including the director, are currently recovering from injuries. We're not sure how this will affect our debut schedule, but we're pressing forward with production where we can while we allow time for healing and rehabilitation.
The amount of passion, talent, care, and yes, blood, our team has put into is remarkable. This team cares so much about the well-being of high school students - the dedication is uncanny. We can't wait for you to see what we've made!
