We have a lot of great new artworks to share, available exclusively through Liles McBurney Fine Art. Among these are three mixed media works on panel by Atlanta painter Tracey Lane.

"My paintings are a celebration of the mystery of nature and the promise and complexity of life that exists in nature," says Lane. "The work is about the experience of light and shadow, color and texture, the play between the seen and the unseen, between memory and imagination." Lane's visual language combines the artist's love of abstraction with contemporary realism.

I highly recommend a visit to Cumberland Gallery for its two-part, final exhibition and 39th year retrospective show. The contribution Cumberland has made to the Nashville visual arts scene, through its visionary proprietor Carol Stein, has been tremendous and will be sorely missed.

A rare opportunity exists to own a piece of artwork by the late Sylvia Hyman, the Nashville-based, internationally reknown ceramicist. Hyman passed away in 2012 at the age of 95 following a celebrated career in art that spanned decades.

Hyman worked with clay in traditional ways for many years before she began creating sculpture in the style of trompe l’oeil. Focusing on everyday objects, the artist created stoneware and porcelain sculptures that were often screen-printed with text, symbols or images. She placed her clay objects in ceramic containers that simulated the appearance of baskets, or cardboard and wooden boxes. The resulting sculptures inspired a sense of disorientation for viewers as they realized each object was created entirely with clay.

A very limited number of signed pieces created by Hyman and reflective of different periods of her evolving career – from her earliest work with clay beads to functional art such as dinnerware or vessels, and later, trompe l’oeil sculpture – are available. Inquiries should be made to [email protected].
