I’m shocked. I just saw Steve on Friday. He seemed to be much better than when I visited him the week before. The last thing he said to me was, “Don’t worry, we’re gonna finish that song. Love ya man.”

Earlier this spring, my sister, Sanna, had a chance encounter with a stranger. As typical with my sister, she made a new friend instantly. That woman happened to be Steve’s lovely wife, Angel. Soon following, Angel was kind enough to host a new member party for Sanna’s GLO30 business.

Sanna mentioned that her brother is a producer and owns a studio in Brentwood. Any chance he could meet Steve??? Thanks, sis!

A few weeks later, we had a lovely dinner with our family and Steve’s. I loved asking Steve as many questions as I could about his career. Nerdy stuff. How many tracks was “Dock Of The Bay” cut on? How did y’all setup the reverb at Stax? What made Al Jackson Jr. your favorite drummer?

He remembered every detail! It was amazing. He also tolerated me. No small feat!

The following month, we ended up writing together.

The song is called, “Givin’ In.”

As soon as I get a break in my production schedule next year, I will track and finish that song for Steve.

He was the musical legend’s musical legend.

He was also a very sweet guy that took the time to give me a shot.

I will always be grateful.
