Parlor Production Studio

Parlor Production Studio The Parlor Studio is a world class recording studio located right down the heart of Nashville's Music Row. Larry designed and built The Parlor Studio.

The Parlor Studio / Best Built Songs is owned by Larry Sheridan and Robin Ruddy. Larry and Robin moved to Nashville in 1986 and have been steadily growing their music business together ever since. In 1994 Larry and Robin started the publishing company Best Built Songs literally from their kitchen table. They are both very involved in signing new songs and writers and pitching material for the comp

any. When they finally outgrew the one room studio and office in their house they started looking for a new home for Best Built Songs, and for the studio. That new home was an old bungalow on Music Row that was then owned by Randy Travis and was used as a storage place for his concessions. They bought the house in 1997 and renovated it to make what is now known as The Parlor Studio and the offices of Best Built Songs. Larry has a very strong musical background having played the solo circuit in New York City in the 70's while pursuing his jazz studies, but it is his background in architecture and cabinet making that made this studio what it is today. He used Michael Cronin as an acoustical advisor and it has been said time and time again that the recording studio is sonically superior. It really works. We get great drum sounds in the 16' high tracking room. Robin grew up in Miami, Florida and started playing the bluegrass circuit in North Carolina and Washington DC in the 70's and 80's. They met while they were living in DC and discovered their mutual love for songwriting. In the summer of 1986 they decided to pack up the u-haul and make the move to Nashville. Since then, Robin has performed and toured with notable artists like Rod Stewart, Ray Stevens, Shania Twain, Lynn Anderson, Deborah Allen and many more, playing pedal steel, banjo, dobro and guitar. Larry is now producing young talented artists in the recording studio, and Robin is working with them on developing their songwriting, performance skills and stage presence.

I just love this post from my friend Steve so much that I wanted to share it.
Thanks for reading it.

I love this quote, though I don’t know who sourced it…

”Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively with words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hurt, to hinder, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble”.

I’ve been a part of the music business here in Nashville for over 30 years. Few know, however, that my professional background is in Education. A lifetime ago, I earned a California State Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Early Childhood Education (K-3). I taught or ran Head Start centers for close to a decade. I say this to let you know that the example we set for children is extremely important to me. In fact, I based my entire classroom curriculum on the question, “what type of adults do we want as neighbors?"

Obviously, there’s great political and civil divide in this country. When on opposing sides, it can be difficult to find common ground from which to begin a constructive conversation. I believe finding something we can agree on is the sensible place to start. I think we can mutually agree that regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, or party affiliation, we all love our children and want what’s best for them.

The President of the United States has the biggest megaphone in the world. He or she will be a most visible and powerful example for how our children learn to behave in all kinds of situations. For the sake of our children and our children’s children, I ask myself…which candidate best serves as a healthy role model for teaching our kids how to treat themselves and others? The President’s behavior will inform our children on what’s appropriate, how to resolve conflicts, and how to speak to and act towards those with differing opinions, beliefs, and cultural practices.

Although I do have strong opinions and preferences regarding policy, I needed to look no further than the examples shown by our candidates when determining my vote. In the eyes, ears, and hearts of our children, tone matters. Treating others as you would like to be treated, with dignity, compassion, and respect...matters. The Golden Rule... matters.

Our children are watching. Let’s be the people we’d like our children to become.

Steve
