’s June exhibition has completely transformed our space. In skin deep, Hart navigates the thin membrane between vulnerability and performance. Turning to materials closest to these closed-door rituals, the quiet witnesses of perfection and erasure - acts that shape how we are seen and how we learn to see ourselves.

Working with materials that are soft, familiar, discarded - often carrying the weight of memory - Hart recalls the women that came before her: their labor, their struggle, and their resilience. Every thread is a connection: every gesture is an act of release. Hart wraps, knots, and binds not to contain, but to reveal.

skin deep will be on view at COOP through Saturday, June 20. Watch this short video to learn more about Hart’s work.

🐓 COOP Gallery is pleased to announce that our annual Open Call for exhibition proposals is live! 🐓

Artists and independent curators from across the country are invited to propose solo, two-person, and group exhibitions that responds to our 2027 curatorial theme. Selected proposals will be offered a 3–4 week exhibition in 2027 at COOP Gallery and will receive a one-time $500 honorarium. One exhibition will be selected as the National Open Call Winner and will be offered an exhibition in March 2027 along with a one-time honorarium of $1,000.

2027 Curatorial Theme: CURRENT
CURRENT considers the visible and invisible forces that shape how we live, create, and relate. From water systems and ocean tides to electrical grids and digital networks, currents carry energy, information, and life itself. They move through bodies, technologies, ecologies, and time. In an increasingly accelerated world, we ask: What moves us, and what do we move with?

This theme reclaims soft power as the response to the pressures of speed. We are moved not by the frantic push of “linear urgency,” but by the quiet intelligence of slowness, care, and tenderness. To move with the current is to embrace soft power as a form of resistance, a deliberate refusal of speed in favor of sustained attention and emotional labor.

Entry deadline is July 15, 2026.
Entry fee is $25

COOP is pleased to present skin deep by . In this exhibition, Hart navigates the thin membrane between vulnerability and performance. Turning to materials closest to these closed-door rituals, the quiet witnesses of perfection and erasure - acts that shape how we are seen and how we learn to see ourselves. These materials come from domestic spaces - where expectations of femininity settle like a film of dust. Hart chooses to distort and unravel them, and in that undoing, they are pushed to a point where they strain against their own histories. The exhibition invites viewers to look beneath the decorative and the desirable, to feel how the pursuit of the “ideal” can leave scars, and to recognize that what we dismiss as the surface is often the site of our deepest wounds.

Tenee’ Hart is an ‘unconventional’ fiber sculpture artist pursuing themes of feminism that delve into topics of beauty, anatomy, and the inequality of women. Wrapped fibers, gushing forms, and the manipulation of the ‘everyday’ are crucial components within Hart’s abstract works. Hart hails from Virginia, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mary Washington in 2011, later earning her Masters of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University.
