The Real Life Players

The Real Life Players We are a non-profit theater company. Our shows deal with real life issues, and real life people.

We are very grateful to all those who have graduated from our company and we are very proud and excited to continue the company in the years to come. We deeply appreciate the support that our community, our friends, and our family offer in our efforts to continue the
RLP. Again and as always, we hope that you leave our production certainly entertained, but also inspired to think about what we hav

e expressed and maybe even motivated to share your thoughts with the significant youth and/or adults in your life and maybe even take action to change things for the better, if in no other way than in your own attitudes, level of understanding for others.

Thanks again to everyone who made it out to Back in the Day. You helped make our 20th show one of the most successful to date! As you know, we calculate the amount of the donation given to each charity as a percentage of how many votes that charity received at the door.

This year’s donation totals were as follows:

$680 to Salama Urban Ministries, with 25% of the vote

$879 to the Oasis Center's Crisis Services and Street Outreach Program, with 33% of the vote

$1081 to the The Jason Foundation, Inc., in memory of Father Ryan High School student Spencer Tate, with 42% of the vote

Altogether, we managed to raise $2990 dollars this year!

Amazingly enough, this brings the overall amount of money we’ve donated over the course of our twenty years to roughly $40,000. We are so happy to be able to give back to our Nashville community and we couldn’t have done it without all of your generous support. We want to especially thank the Hamner family for their additional contributions as well as our wonderful alumni who contributed $250 directly to the Oasis Center in Valli’s name.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

"A 20th anniversary is a notable milestone for any theater company, but it's especially remarkable for Real Life Players, which according to artistic director Valli Baldwin is the only theater group in the country owned and operated by its teen members." Thank you to the Nashville Scene and writer Martin Brady for this excellent write-up. Back in the Day opens tonight!

The Real Life Players are happy to announce charity selections for our 2014 performance, Back in the Day. From the pool of nominations, we chose the following three organizations to receive this year’s proceeds:

1. The Salama Institute – Salama provides underprivileged Nashville area children, grades K-12, with an after-school, extended learning program emphasizing arts enrichment, academic tutoring, and leadership like skills.
2. The Oasis Center – Oasis is one of Nashville’s leading youth service organizations, offering 21 programs including crisis support services, youth engagement and action, as well as college preparatory resources. A longtime friend to the RLP, funds donated to Oasis will be directed their Crisis Services/Street Outreach Program, which provides much needed resources to Nashville’s homeless youth.
3. The Jason Foundation – The Jason Foundation seeks to prevent youth suicides through educational and awareness programs designed to give young people, educators, and parents the resources to identify and assist at-risk youth.

Thank you to all who submitted charity nominations. The Salama Institute, the Oasis Center, and the Jason Foundation represent the ideals and values of this year’s cast and provide important resources and services to the local Nashville community. We are glad to be able to support these invaluable organizations and their missions. Looking forward to a great show!

This year, the Real Life Players were able to donate the proceeds from the show GHOSTLIGHT to three very deserving nonprofit organizations in Nashville. The charities were Hoofprint Crossings, Proverbs 2:10, and Fifty Forward Music for Seniors. Here are the totals that were donated from RLP!

Proverbs 2:10 $ 850.00
Hoofprint Crossings $ 450.00
Fifty Forward Music for Seniors $ 500.00

Thank you to everyone who attended the show and made these donations possible.
Thank you to St. George’s for giving RLP a place to rehearse. Without their support, we would have not been able to give the charities these funds.

In 19 years, RLP has given over 20 different Nashville nonprofits just over $43,000!

Again, thank you!
