Very possiibily the most iconic picture in the history of Rock and Roll.

On June 18, 1967, Jimi Hendrix played the Monterey International Pop Festival. He followed The Who, who had destroyed their equipment at the end of there set. Wanting to upstage The Who, Jim Hendrix 'set the world on fire' when he doused his guitar with lighter fluid and ignited it. (Jimi had done this once before in London, and it was his way of doing it).

The funny thing was, both The Who and Hendrix were not very well known at the time. The audience at the festival was more used to acts like The Byrds, The Association, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and The Papas.

That night, 49 years ago today was a pivital point in the history of Rock and Roll.
