Out of care for our community and due to forecasted rain before and during class time, today’s Juneteenth African Drum & Dance Community Class has been canceled.

While we’re disappointed not to gather on the dance floor today, community, culture, and celebration remain at the heart of what we do.

✨ We WILL reschedule this class for a later date.

What a powerful Black History Month celebration at Jones Paideia Elementary School! From Pre-K to 3rd grade, the room was glowing with bright eyes, big smiles, and unstoppable energy. The students gave us everything they had — pure joy, pure rhythm, pure love for the culture.

Deep gratitude to for helping make experiences like this possible and for ensuring African drum and dance continues to reach our schools. ❤️🖤💚

A Day of Rhythm and Culture at Carter-Lawrence!

Last Wednesday, Carter-Lawrence had the joy of welcoming Sankofa Drum and Dance of Tennessee for a powerful and unforgettable cultural experience.
Sankofa African Drum and Dance Company is a Tennessee based performing arts company whose mission is to rally communities around the beat of the drum to unify, heal and inspire.

Our students were captivated from the moment the performers entered with vibrant costumes, rhythmic drumming, and energetic movement. The group shared not only music and dance, but also the rich stories and traditions that inspire their work.

Throughout the performance, students clapped along, moved to the beat, and learned about the cultural significance of West African rhythms and dances. The excitement in the room was undeniable as Sankofa Drum and Dance created an atmosphere filled with joy, celebration, and connection.

We were also honored to have Councilwoman Terry Vo visit Carter-Lawrence during the event. Her presence added to the sense of community and support surrounding our students. We appreciated the opportunity to showcase the enriching experiences happening in our school.

Events like this highlight the importance of exposing our students to diverse cultural experiences and helping them see the world through a wider lens. We are grateful to Sankofa Drum and Dance of TN for bringing such a meaningful and uplifting performance to our school. It was a day our students won’t soon forget!
