The 27th annual NSAI Song Contest opens TOMORROW, Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 12:00pm CT and we will begin accepting entries for lyric and full song submissions! Presented by The Bluebird Cafe, this year’s contest will award 2 Grand Prize packages (a Lyric Category Grand Prize and a Song Category Grand Prize) and 11 additional prize packages to songwriters who place as runners-up in the competition. The debate over using artificial intelligence in music, especially without the copyright owner’s permission, continues. NSAI President Lee Miller and Nashville-based songwriter/artist Ben Gallaher weigh in.

The music industry is battling a flood of A.I.-generated music. According to Deezer, a music streaming app, music made with A.I. now accounts for about 44% of daily music downloads.

We had two great events this week! On Tuesday, we debuted a new workshop 'Songs & Stories' presented by Sony Music Publishing! We had members split up into small groups, and share some songs!

On Thursday, we had a full house for our morning Pitch to Publisher with Eilee Brenzel from Jonas Group Publishing! We hope to see everyone back next week!

"Suzanne Todd walked into the cowrite with the spark of the idea, and David Cooper and I were "hooked" the moment we heard it. The three of us spent the session laughing our way through lines—some that made the song, some that were just too wild to keep. THE NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF DOLLY PARTON

“The Nashville songwriting family joins the world today in mourning the loss of our precious Dolly Parton. There is no greater ambassador for the art of songwriting, Music Row and the state of Tennessee than Dolly. No one is more admired, revered and respected.

It cannot be overstated how difficult the obstacles were for a young woman in the 1950s and '60s to carve a path in the music business, much less become a 'one-word' household name. She will forever be spoken of as a Mount Rushmore-level icon in our industry.

On behalf of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, thank you, Dolly, for the songs, the class, the heart and the eternal impression you have left on country music. We miss you already.”
