Happy Birthday a true legend we’re honored to have captured in 35mm color film.

FROM "IT WASN'T GOD WHO MADE H***Y TONK ANGELS" TO A LIFETIME OF INFLUENCE: KITTY WELLS FOREVER CHANGED COUNTRY MUSIC, CELEBRATING HER HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY TODAY!

Heavenly birthday wishes to Kitty Wells, the “Queen of Country Music,” born on August 30, 1919. She forever changed the landscape of the genre when she became the first female artist to top the country charts with “It Wasn’t God Who Made H***y Tonk Angels” in 1952. At a time when the industry was dominated by men, Kitty gave women a powerful voice and opened the door for generations of female artists who followed.

Over her remarkable career, she recorded more than 50 albums and had over 80 singles on the country charts. With songs like “Making Believe” and “Amigo’s Guitar,” she became a symbol of strength, authenticity, and heartfelt storytelling. Her influence earned her countless honors, including induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976 and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1991.

Beyond the awards, Kitty Wells will always be remembered as a pioneer who proved that women belonged at the very center of country music. She passed away on July 16, 2012, at the age of 92 from complications of a stroke.

Today we celebrate her heavenly birthday with gratitude for the trail she blazed and the timeless music she left behind.
