Sammi Appreciation Post!

I met Sammi in a donut shop 🍩
Ragana was a baby events company, and Never Sent was just getting started. She was working behind the counter and I was hustling to get posters and flyers up for the show on every wall I could. When I explained what Never Sent was, she excitedly understood what it was about, she really truly got it… then before I left, she ran up to me and said- “can I help?!”
Ends up she was / is a wildly talented photograher and we’ve been collaborating on many adventures since then. We came up with the black and white Never sent photo series together. She really makes everyone feel at ease and is so gifted at capturing the raw beauty and tenderness in others. Her talents go beyond the camera however, this lady is on top of her game and I can always count on her. I know if Sammi is there, it’s gonna be a great show.
Thank you for everything 💕 we absolutely could not do this without you.

“My piece for never sent is about being a domestic violence survivor.
I got out on April 11th of this year.

According to the Dva Foundation, More than 60% (link in bio) of LGBTQ people have experienced domestic, family, or intimate partner violence and abuse in their lifetime.
And I’m hoping my story will help someone get out of an abusive relationship if they’re in one.
Because anyone is strong enough to leave.”

Where was this photo taken?
“Redcon1 gym in Nashville. I got into bodybuilding in October of 2022 and it was my form of escaping reality by spending several hours at the gym every week.
I’ve met great people along the way and have lots of respect for everyone here.
We’re all here to improve ourselves.”

3. Why is this space important in your life?
“It helped me through my depression. I lost a huge part of myself in that relationship of 2 years. I never thought I would get my “spark” back. I was broken down so many times I didn’t recognize myself anymore.
And now when I look in the mirror I see a woman who survived something she never thought she could.

It was like walking through fire to save my own life, and now I know I can get through anything life throws my way.”

“I like to watch the trees and watch the train go by. For me, the train is like watching life continue, watching life go on. It's loud, it's like 'What's next?! Where am I going next?! You know?"

Why is this space important in your life?
"I recently closed on this town home... It's mine, I earned it. I can sit on the deck in this peaceful place, feeling rested and accomplished.”

"My Never Sent it's something that I've never said to my mother. I felt the need to express this now because I feel that a lot of us are too afraid to talk about things like sexual assault or molestation, it's important to talk about these things or we're all just going to be back in our silence"

"Rhino Booksellers"

Why is this space important in your life?
"This space is important to me because I love a good bookshop. On my saddest days, I go in there and look for poetry or a good read and there's a cat there, which is super fun. I love being in a bookstore with the smell of old books, it's calming."

“I have been feeling this writer and artist block about my transness. It's nothing revolutionary, I have something stuck in me and I need to get it out.... If I get it out there, I can move on and not feel beholden to this part of my identity and can truly engage in my work. As a full person, as a full artist."

Percy Priest Lake

Why is this space important in your life?
"I like to go there and think, it's a quiet spot. Especially in the winter and fall.. I'll move up to the lake bed, walk on the rocks and listen to them make that rattle, it's this prehistoric sound.. the whole thing is a multisensory experience."
