Howdy! Feels like I've spent more time with this console than any other human this week! 😂

With starting The Mic Closet, I thought it'd only be fair to say hi from behind the screen! My name's Phoebe and I'm an audio engineer-in-training. I say "in training" because, when exactly is the moment you suddenly decide to call yourself an allusive, self-assured literal engineer?!? (maybe that's a girl thing 😂).

Anyways, I started The Mic Closet as a place to discuss audio and my progress as I know how confusing it can be when starting out and I think it'd be nice to have a conversation about recording without all the technical jargon! We all have ears, so we're all qualified.

I only started recording in 2017, so am still somewhat new. I just love, love, love music and I want to be a part of creating all the sounds that go into it! After discovering country music when I was 13, nine years late I finally made it to Nashville where I'm living out my country music dream! haha. So that's me! What got you into recording?

You answered and so I shall test! The Electro-Voice RE20 was originally a broadcast mic, but its bass-controlling tendencies have made it a standard in the kick drum closet.

Keep an eye out for our mic test with the RE20, where I'll be testing out what placements get the best sound!

Welcome to The Mic Closet! This is my page as an audio girl in what sometimes feels like a never-ending world of microphones (which is, of course, a great problem to have)!

I'm going to be reviewing a range of microphones, putting aside the cost, appearance, and hearsay and focusing on the one thing that really matters: how it sounds!
